Description:
The "Programa SADA" (Sustainable Conservation of the Hawksbill Populations at the Príncipe Island) is a participative initiative that ensures the sustainable conservation of the hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) breeding population at the Príncipe Island, as weel as the other nesting and foraging sea turtle populations.
The "Programa SADA" is coordinated by University of Algarve (Portugal). A Collaboration Protocol with the Regional Government of Príncipe Island, a Collaboration Protocol with the ONGD “Ligar à Vida”, and a Memorandum of Understanding with the Natural Park of Príncipe were signed, to ensure the proper management of the activities of the "Programa SADA". The Lisbon Oceanarium, the University of Algarve, the Praia Boi Nature Resort, and private donors are the main sponsors of the initiative.
The "Programa SADA" is a multi-annual project that had its starting time in January 2009, and is gaining the true involvement of several stakeholders and community members.
Activities in four strategical working guidelines are and will be carried out simultaneously:

> direct sea turtle protection
> knowledge improvement
> information spreading
