Description:

The Department of Environment (DoE) Marine Turtle Research Program was initiated in 1998 to assess status and management needs of marine turtles in the Cayman Islands. Projects include systematic surveys of nesting beaches to quantify abundance and distribution of nesting, satellite tracking adult female green and loggerhead turtles to identify foraging areas, and investigation of genetics, habitat use, diving behaviour, and ecology of juvenile hawksbill and green turtles to elucidate international migratory patterns and local management requirements.
