Description:
Care for Hedland is a local not for profit environmental group based in Port Hedland, WA, Australia. For the past 9 seasons we have undertaken community monitoring of two local Flatback Turtles rookeries. These rookeries are situated right in the middle of a town and also the second largest bulk export port in the world. Due to this fact our turtles face a unique set of challenges. The upcoming season (October-April) will be our tenth season of monitoring, it will also be the second time we have conducted the scientific tag and release program. We have a large amount of community involvement and welcome volunteers from all over the world, billeting them with our local members. Feel free to contact us for more information! :)
Organization Type: Non-profit
Activities: Conservation, Education, Management, Monitoring, Outreach, Research, Turtle Tours
Turtle Tours: We take free night tours (donations appreciated) most nights (depending on tides as we have such a huge a tidal range and like people off the beach by 1130pm. Meet at Cemetery Beach car park. Contact coordinator@careforhedland.org.au for more details.
