SCDNR Marine Turtle Conservation Program

The SCDNR Marine Turtle Conservation Program is responsible for managing and protecting sea turtles in the state of South Carolina, USA. This program has several all encompassing components: management, monitoring, research, and education. More specifically this program provides technical expertise on anthropogenic activities that have the potential to impact sea turtles (i.e., nourishment, dredging), locates and protects sea turtle nests (~300 km of coastline), documents strandings, performs necropsies on fresh dead strandings, works with the SC Aquarium to provide rehablitation for live strandings, monitors nearshore waters for leatherbacks, and provides as much education, outreach and exchange of scientific information as time allows.

Description:

CARINAM is the pioneering organization to work for sea turtle conservation in Bangladesh. The group started working informally on sea turtles in 1983 but later the group was formed in 1995. As a group it started Marine Turtle Conservation Project (MTCP) in 1996 in St. Martin's Island, Bangladesh through IUCN/MTSG/Small Grants. The group is involved in research on sea turtle nest site surveys, studying nesting habitats, threats, regular surveys along the coast line, training and advocacy for sea turtle conservation, awareness building, etc.
