The Red Tortuguera A.C. unites sea turtle camps and researchers in Jalisco and Nayarit (Mexico), looking to work together for the conservation and protection of sea turtles.
History
In January 2011 a group of turtle biologists and enthusiasts from the states of Nayarit and Jalisco, Mexico decided to unite conservation efforts and create a network for local turtle protection camps (Campamentos Tortugueros) each member bringing different skills and knowledge to the group.
The founding turtle camps of Red Tortuguera A.C. (RETO) are El Naranjo (Guayabitos, Nayarit), Boca de Chila (Zacualpan, Nayarit), Mayto (Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco) and Puerto Vallarta (Jalisco). In 2012 three new sea turtle camps joined RETO, Careyeros (Punta de Mita, Nayarit), Punta Raza (Monteon, Nayarit) and Caminando con Tortugas (Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco).
