SCDNR Marine Turtle Conservation Program

The SCDNR Marine Turtle Conservation Program is responsible for managing and protecting sea turtles in the state of South Carolina, USA. This program has several all encompassing components: management, monitoring, research, and education. More specifically this program provides technical expertise on anthropogenic activities that have the potential to impact sea turtles (i.e., nourishment, dredging), locates and protects sea turtle nests (~300 km of coastline), documents strandings, performs necropsies on fresh dead strandings, works with the SC Aquarium to provide rehablitation for live strandings, monitors nearshore waters for leatherbacks, and provides as much education, outreach and exchange of scientific information as time allows.

Description:

The AQWA Foundation is a non profit, non government organisation established by AQWA the Aquarium of Western Australia to increase awareness, understanding and appreciation of Western Australia’s marine life.

□ The Turtle Pool is the AQWA Foundation's current project which provides specialised care for the sick and injured turtles that wash up on WA’s shores.

□ The aim is to rescue, rehabilitate and release.

□ Turtles are usually rescued due to natural cold stunning, boat strikes or injury due to other human related activities.

□ AQWA works with WA’s Department of Parks and Wildlife to rehabilitate and release its rescued turtles.

□ The Turtle Pool is run by AQWA’s dedicated aquarist team and is funded by AQWA; it does not accept public donations or rely on government funding.
