Description:
The objectives of this group are to reflect about the different aspects of the conservation management of the marine turtles in France and to exchange information within the French national territory: mother country and overseas, with links to the conservation actions at the international level.The GTMF is animated by the Service du Patrimoine Naturel (Natural Patrimony Office) of the (National Museum of Natural History in Paris) Muséum National d’ Histoire Naturelle de Paris, which assures the secretary on the behalf of the french Ministry in charge of the natural environment (Ministère de l’Ecologie, de l’Energie, du Développement durable et de l’Aménagement du Territoire). It is open to all the actors of the marine turtle conservation in France and gathers to-date 128 members, who can exchange information through a weblist ; the members meet each year through meetings or workshops, and visio-conferences. Commissions have been created on several priority thematics: databases, reduction of accidental captures, habitat restoration, sensitization of the public, legislation and training.
