Releasing "Mali" in Coiba National Park, Panama

Recent investigations in Coiba National Park in Panama have resulted in the highest recorded densities of hawksbill turtles to date. On the first day of monitoring, 12 hawksbills were hand captured (later released) in one hour 15 minutes! A total of 99 hawksbill observed over the course of four days. We were also able to catch an adult male hawksbill an equip it with a satellite tag...only the second adult male hawksbill to be tracked via satellite telemetry in the entire eastern Pacific Ocean!

This was a joint effort between Eastern Pacific Hawksbill Initiative, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Autoridad Nacional del Ambiente -ANAM, Campamento Tortuguero Mayto, Autoridad de Recursos Aquaticos de Panama (ARAP).
