Somatic growth in juvenile green turtle

This juvenile green turtle exhibits differential coloration of carapace scutes, likely due to a shift in habitat and/or food type (the lighter parts are newer scute growth). Turtle was captured by net at Lac Bay, Bonaire, where Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire carries out periodic surveys. Somatic growth rates for juvenile greens here are some of the highest recorded worldwide.
