Status and Exploitation of Marine Turtles in the UK Caribbean Overseas Territories (TCOT)
The Marine Turtle Research Group (University of Exeter in Cornwall, UK) and the Marine Conservation Society (UK) have recently launched the final report of the TCOT project which is hosted entirely online at the project’s website <https://seaturtle.org/mtrg/projects/tcot/>. The 3-year Defra and FCO supported project involved diverse collaborative research initiatives, capacity building and awareness raising efforts regarding the Status and Exploitation of Marine Turtles in the UK Caribbean Overseas Territories. This included Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Montserrat and Turks and Caicos Islands. Overviews are presented regarding available data describing the status of nesting populations, foraging aggregations, direct and indirect exploitation, legislation, molecular genetics, capacity building and awareness raising activities. OT specific and overarching recommendations
are made.
