At Rantau Abang 72,000 leatherback eggs have been placed in the hatchery this year. Two new sanctuary areas are planned and it is hoped these will be established and protected by next May. The Government is providing M$75,000 for the establishment of a laboratory-research station, and it is hoped also to have an information center which will be outside the sanctuary area. Details of a film showing the nesting of the leatherback and the hatchling of the eggs will be announced in a future newsletter.
