Those of us who are concerned about the survival of sea turtles are often frustrated by our inability to counteract the threats that face sea turtles. Now, we have been provided with the opportunity to address a dire threat to the olive ridleys in Orissa, India. Based on the information provided to us by our colleagues in India, the seriousness of this threat cannot be questioned. We must convince the government officials in India of the devastating effects the proposed development would have on olive ridleys in Orissa. We must also alert these officials to the high level of international concern about the future of the Gahirmatha arribadas. I join with Karen and Scott Eckert and with Nicholas Mrosovsky in urging the readers of the Marine Turtle Newsletter to write to the government officials listed above to express your concern.
