Editorial: MTN/NTM Housekeeping

There are a number of points related to day-to-day housekeeping of the MTN and NTM which need to be highlighted to help improve the service the editors, editorial board and numerous volunteers are able to provide.

Subscriptions

We have included the annual subscriptions/donations form for completion and return. Following our appeal last year, although a large number of our readers took the trouble to fill in the subscriptions/donation form, they were in the minority. We will not be deleting non-confirmed subscribers from the mailing list imminently, but it is an option we may have to consider dependent upon prevailing financial support. We would, therefore, urge all readers to fill in the annual subscription form and send it back to the address requested. Let us know that you are still receiving and appreciating your MTN/NTM.

Donations

If you are able to make a donation at the same time as returning your subscription renewal form, this will help the production of the MTN greatly. Please follow instructions detailed on the form. If you are unable to make a donation at this time, return your subscription form regardless. Please remember that we are entirely dependent on financial donations from organisations and individuals, with the editorial team all donating their time and services.

Spanish Version

The primary reviewing and editing for the MTN/NTM are undertaken in English. Final versions of the manuscripts are then translated into Spanish by NTM Co-ordinator, Angela Mast and her team. Contributors to the NTM please note that, at Angela's request, all correspondence regarding article submissions should be with the Editors (BJG/ACB). Correspondence regarding subscriptions to the Spanish version should be with Angela. We in no way, wish to discourage contributions from Spanish speaking colleagues and we have a network of volunteers who are available to help with Spanish-English translation should assistance be required.

Recent Publications

This section is compiled by the Archie Carr Center for Sea Turtle Research (ACCSTR), University of Florida. If authors wish publications to appear in this section in a timely manner, they should send a copy to: ACCSTR, University of Florida, PO Box 118525, Gainesville, FL 32611, USA. This will also ensure that your publication is included in the ACCSTR On-line Bibliography. A form is provided on the MTN-Online to facilitate registering new publications with the ACCSTR <https://seaturtle.org/mtn/pubs.shtml>. Readers should note that Editors of the MTN also request a copy of relevant publications to help facilitate the transmission of information to colleagues submitting articles who may not have access to on-line literature reviewing services.

MTN-Online

Readers should note that each new issue of the MTN <www.seaturtle.org/mtn/> and the NTM <www.seaturtle.org/ntm/> are now available online in advance of the hard copy. Please take advantage of this free service. New features include online search facilities.

The MTN-Online needs volunteers with word processing or HTML experience to help convert back issues of the MTN/NTM into electronic format. Please contact Michael Coyne (E-mail: MTN@seaturtle.org) if you can offer assistance. So far issues 1, 34, 69,72 and 76 to 85 are available.

Another feature to be aware of is subscription services <https://seaturtle.org/mtn/subscribe/>. To date, we have 210 registered electronic subscribers: 94 receive e-mail reminders when the new MTN is posted on the web; 44 receive reminders when archive issues are posted online; and 128 receive each new issue in PDF format.

Jobs/Volunteer Opportunities

One of the many interactive features of the MTN-Online is the ability to post job/volunteer opportunities which can be submitted online and will appear on the website soon afterwards. All potential recruiters are asked to use this vehicle for dissemination of this type of information in preference to that of the hard copy.

Feedback

We welcome feedback/constructive criticism on any issues pertinent to the structure and function of the MTN/NTM. Please let us have your comments. ACB/BJG.
