Beach Description

Seabrook Island
South Carolina DNR Sea Turtle Conservation Program

Seabrook is a gated, residential resort community with single family homes, condominiums and resort facilities. Camp St. Christopher on Seabrook Island is owned and operated by the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina. Most camp buildings are located behind the tree line.

Like Botany Bay Island, Seabrook is roughly circular in shape and the 6 km beach extends from the ocean around to the shore of the North Edisto River. The middle portion has a rock revetment while the northern section has a wide dune field between the homes and nesting beach. Much of this sand was acquired by restructuring Captain Sam's Inlet and allowing the sand from the south end of Kiawah Island to drift south onto Seabrook. Residents on the island have conducted a nest protection project since 1990. Seabrook averages less than 50 nests per year.
