Beach Description

North Carolina WRC Sea Turtle Project

The town of Atlantic Beach, NC, is located on the eastern end of Bogue Banks, a barrier island in Carteret County. Volunteers and the town's Public Works department collaborate in monitoring and protecting nests laid on the beach, and protecting hatchlings produced on the beach. Although sea turtle nests have been documented on Atlantic Beach since the early 1990s, regular monitoring began in 2002.
