click map for full-size version Since laying a clutch on the 5th August, Aydin has headed west and south along the coast of Cyprus. She has now begun her migration to her foraging ground on the north African coast and is currently located off the coast of Libya. This is a dangerous part of her journey as turtles are hunted for their meat and blood in this region.

Background

This green turtle (named Aydin after the wife of President Rauf Denktas)was fitted with a Sirtrack satellite transmitter on the night of the 23/24th July 2004 at Alagadi Beach, Northern Cyprus. She returned to nest on the 5th August and has now begun her migration to the north African coast.
