Green Turtles, Overveiw

click map for full-size version Oya was first recorded nesting at Alagadi Beach this year on the 23rd June, but has previously nested here in 1998 and 2000. Since nesting on the 8th July she has made her way to the coast of Turkey. As most green turtles in this region lay evey 10-16 days during the breeding season she may have laid a clutch in Turkey or perhaps she has finished breeding and this is her foraging ground.

Background

This green turtle (named Oya after the wife of Prime Minister Talat) was fitted with a sirtrack satellite transmitter on the 8th July 2004 at Alagadi Beach, Northern Cyprus. She has previously nested at this beach in 1998 and 2000. In 2004 she laid at least 2 clutches at Alagadi Beach before heading off to the Turkish coast. here she may have laid a further clutch or possibly was just foraging.
