Background

This turtle was captured on a Uruguayan pelagic longline vessel operating in the SW Atlantic within Uruguayan waters. Marta was hooked in the mid-esophagus. A PNOFA scientific observer was not able to remove the hook, so the mono-filament was cut at the shortest distance from the beak. The turtle was released in good condition. Marta was named by a fisherman and measured 49 cm CCL x 48 cm CCW.
