Introduction
This sea turtle satellite tracking is part of the CARET2 program (Co-ordinated Approach to Restore our Endangered Turtles 2).
CARET2 program is a program for the conservation of sea turtles of Guianas and the valorization of their presence into Guianas tourism (Suriname and French Guiana).
This project is based on a satellite tracking on sixteen Green turtle (Chelonia mydas) subjects (post-nesting female green turtles) equipped with satellite transmitters connected by Fastlock tags (8 green turtles in French Guiana and 8 green turtles in Suriname). It contributes to improve knowledge of the biology of this specie on the Guianas shield by determining its distribution, its migratory and foraging sites, its displacements and its diving behavior in relation to the oceanographical conditions. Finally, it will enable the identification of areas of overlapith regional (artisanal and commercial) fisheries, and bring a scientific base to decision-making process for the management and conservation of protected areas and Green turtles at a regional scale.
