Introduction

The Indian Ocean Whale Sanctuary was established by the International Whaling Commission in 1979. Relatively little is known however about the migratory movements of humpback whales from their breeding grounds in the Sanctuary to their foraging grounds in Antarctica: do they use migration corridors? do they visit other breeding grounds on their way to their foraging grounds? How long does it take them to reach their foraging grounds? This project will help answer these questions.

Locations are transmitted with a delay of 48h as specified on the project permit.
